Also watch for construction on S.C. 6 from U.S. 378 to the Lake Murray dam. 3. U.S. 21: Watch for lane closings and delays for bridge maintenance at I-20. Also expect lane closings on Fairmont Drive, Margrave Avenue and Easter Street for construction of sidewalks and gutters. 4. S.C. 6: Expect lane closings at I-20 for bridge construction. Also watch for nighttime lane closings on I-20 eastbound from the Aiken/Lexington county line to just west of S.C. 6 for resurfacing operations. 5. U.S. 176/BROAD RIVER ROAD: Expect construction at the intersections of Kennerly Road, Hollingshed Road and River Bottom Road for the addition of turn lanes.
With winter closing in, Thomas Hughes knows that the banging hammers soon will be quieted at Habitat for Humanity construction sites. Volunteers won't be needed. Home building will pause until spring. For Mr. Hughes, 73, of Buffalo, Butler County, the break is not particularly welcome. "It gets boring," he said of the slow season. .

The Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and grand opening Oct. 5 for the new orthodontic practice of Dr. Reed Mockaitis. The office opened Aug. 7 at 417 W. Warren St., Shelby. The practice provides orthodontic treatment for teeth and jaws for children and adults. Women in Business Pearl Burris Floyd will present "Polishing Your Professional Diamond" at the next Belmont Chamber's Women in Business luncheon from 11:30 a.m.
