  Mega-Storm Signposts

For specific detailed analysis of the Gold, USDollar, Treasury bonds, and inter-market dynamics with the US Economy and Fed monetary policy, see instructions for subscription to my newsletter research reports, which include stock recommendations positioned to rise in the commodity bull market. Articles in this series are promotional.

The mega-storm develops slowly. Small regional home builder Kara Homes of New Jersey has filed for bankruptcy. Depositors have reason to worry. Other builders like Hovnanian, which serves the same northeastern area, has begun to ax executive and field jobs. Construction jobs had primed the labor pump for four years, and now will provide drag. No evidence yet, so it lies just over the horizon. Chain reaction linkage in home sales grows as a problem.

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and Attorney General Madrid ...

September 22, 2006 -- (Santa Fe, NM) -- New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and Attorney General Patricia Madrid announced today that they have begun a crackdown on unlicensed and unscrupulous contractors seeking to exploit victims of the recent flood damage.Unfortunately, natural disasters often attract con artists who promise quick repairs to victims eager to restore their homes and lives, said Governor Bill Richardson, I want residents in these flood affected areas to know they can prevent rip offs by taking a few simple precautions. .

Rail or a real solution?

POPULATION GROWTH, business and tourism expansion, and improving incomes are in part causes of traffic congestion on Oahu, but most of the cause is bad transportation policy.

We are not alone in this. Bad transportation policy, mostly in the form of huge public transit subsidies, took over the nation in the last 25 years. Now we are experiencing the result, which is severe traffic congestion. Here are some specifics from the Federal Highway Administration and the American Public Transit Administration:

» Between 1961 and 2003, the United States doubled in population but transit trips remained the same. (Transit trips are those made primarily in public buses, metro rail, light rail and commuter rail systems.) Funding for these trips grew 5.3 times, from $7.4 billion to $39.8 billion in constant 2001 dollars.

Verona company JT Packard bought by PowerPlus

A Verona company that helps keep computer systems and other critical equipment running during power surges and brief outages is being sold and it will become a whole lot bigger.

JT Packard & Associates has plans to expand into Europe, to buy smaller companies here in the U.S. and in four to five years have as many as 500 employees in Verona.

The purchase by PowerPlus, an Anaheim, Calif., company that primarily provides electrical service to construction sites, is scheduled to close today.

The purchase means that JT Packard's growth will happen more quickly, according to its founder, Jeff Cason, who started the company in 1997 when he was 24.

PETER THOMAS BEING MAX WEBER

Hearing of Weber's death in 1920, many in the German academic community might have thought the news referred to Alfred Weber, Professor of Economics at the University of Heidelberg. While his elder brother Max had recently made a forceful return to public affairs, he was still known principally as the fin de siècle advocate of a muscular national imperialism and the author of some significant, albeit occasional, articles in specialist journals. Although he had tentatively resumed teaching and a more overt political role—having resigned his own post at Heidelberg in 1903, due to a deep depressive illness—Max Weber's scholarly reputation remained limited at the time of his death to a relatively narrow intellectual circle in Mitteleuropa.

Thereafter, the elder brother reclaimed his birthright; only a few years later, Alfred could complain that his own students were more interested in ‘Marx and Max' than in himself.
