Hochtief Construction AG will be presenting the world's first high-security tower - Secuplex - at the world safety fair Security in Essen, from October 10-13, 2006. The concept was developed by Hochtief Construction AG in cooperation with external partners. It functions with various architectural designs and can be implemented not just in office towers but also in hospitals, hotels or embassy buildings. Thanks to its flexible Modular Security System (MSS), Hochtief Construction can establish customized levels of security on the different floors without impact-ing on comfort and convenience or a building's architectural quality. In cooperation with architects KSP Engel und Zimmermann, Hochtief Construction has now developed the first prototype for a 400 meter tall building.
Oshkosh Truck Corporation (NYSE: OSK) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire JLG Industries, Inc. (NYSE: JLG), the global leader in aerial work platforms and telehandler vehicles. Oshkosh will acquire all outstanding shares of JLG for $28 per share. Total consideration, including transaction costs and assumed debt, is $3.2 billion in cash on a fully diluted basis. This transaction will create a $6 billion global specialty vehicle manufacturer. "We have consistently executed strategies to grow this company, creating significant shareholder value during the last decade," said Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "The acquisition of JLG is the latest broad-based initiative in the continuing transformation of Oshkosh Truck Corporation.
QUETTA: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has announced a package of Rs 19.5 billion for Balochistan to accelerate development activities for the welfare of the people. Speaking to newsmen, Shaukat Aziz declared that thirty two thousand one hundred and forty new jobs would be available for all categories of posts to reduce unemployment in the province. It is a major step to end the sense of deprivation. He said that Rs six billion would be provided under the NFC award. The Prime Minister said that each district council would receive Rs one hundred million a special federal grant for the development activities in their respective areas during the current year. There are now 29 districts in the province. The Kohlu and Dera Bugti districts would be provided a total of Rs two billion fifty crore while Gwadar coastal town would receive Rs two billion.
MIAMI, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A 1950s-era house and two V-8 engines may help Florida scientists learn which construction materials and methods better withstand hurricane winds. Studying construction methods and materials and how they withstand hurricanes' wind and water can prevent future damage, the Miami Herald said Friday. Florida International University's International Hurricane Research Center and Laboratory for Coastal Research scientists used the V-8 engines to produce winds of 115 mph, which they trained on the condemned to learn on how older buildings fare, the Herald said. Authorities said improving building against storms stronger is the best way to corral insurance costs, the Herald said. Insurers tend to charge higher premiums on older homes, assuming the dwellings won't fare will in storms because they were built under less rigorous standards.
