Kara Homes' bankruptcy filing could hurt a number of banks and make lenders more cautious about lending to builders as the real estate market slumps. The Chapter 11 filing last week by the East Brunswick-based home builder shows a surprising number of lenders facing large amounts of potential losses, analyst Albert Savastano wrote in a research report Monday. .
A metal manufacturer estimates the cost to remove a 30-foot-high pile of low-grade radioactive waste from its property is $20 million more than an offer made by a Utah disposal facility. Shieldalloy Metallurgical Corp. is at the center of a controversy involving more than 52,000 cubic yards of radioactive waste sitting at the rear of the company's 67.7-acre property. Shieldalloy wants to seal the pile under a specially manufactured cap for 1,000 years. But residents and politicians are demanding the low-grade radioactive rock pile be removed to a Utah-based disposal facility. EnviroCare -- a radioactive decommissioning facility in Clive, Utah -- has released figures estimating the cost to remove the entire pile at between $35 million and $38 million, spokesman Al Rafati said.
Cool air whipped against Jerry Mitchell as he sped down a Wisconsin road, the engine of his motorcycle humming smoothly through each curve of the asphalt. A headlight appeared, traveling toward him, swaying from its place across the center line. Moments later, metal smashed into metal. Mitchell was on his way to a Harley-Davidson convention when he collided with a drunk driver. His injuries required the amputation of his left leg, hip-replacement surgery and the insertion of several steel rods in his arms. He also suffered traumatic brain injury. At the time, Mitchell had been working at Truman Veterans Hospital for 15 years and was in the process of buying a home in the country. The accident shattered that dream. Then Mitchell heard about Habitat for Humanity, which builds and sells houses for 69 percent of the appraised value, basically covering the cost of materials.
The Canadian military has released the names of two soldiers killed in an insurgent ambush on Saturday. They have been identified as Sgt. Darcy Tedford and Pte. Blake Williamson. Both men were members of the 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment based at eastern Ontario's CFB Petawawa. Their ages and hometowns have not yet been released. Three soldiers who served with the two told The Canadian Press that they have been instructed to not speak publicly for at least a day. The soldiers were guarding a Canadian road construction project west of Kandahar city when they were attacked. They were killed when a rocket-propelled grenade exploded over their heads as they were outside their armoured vehicles. The men were honoured in a ramp ceremony at Kandahar airfield Sunday before their remains were loaded on a military plane for their final journey home.
So are the dreams. Big equipment could be built here. We could have another vibrant industry. We could rake in the money. It's the heyday of Nova Scotia's offshore industry, and billions of dollars are being spent around the province. At Dominion Diving, about 40 people work at a hectic pace on the Sable Island Offshore Energy Project, the darling of the offshore industry. The atmosphere at the Dartmouth business is very intense. Doing major underwater diving construction work, Dominion thrives ... The hype didn't last. "Wow, that seems like such a long time ago," says Dominion's John Scott. Expensive exploration wells were drilled, but the promised treasures were never found. Hope fizzled. That is, until recently.
This is part of a paper delivered by Dr Goddy Nwabueze at the 2nd National Summit of State legislatures under the auspices of the conference of Speakers of State legislators in Nigeria in September 2006 at the New Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. Now let us return to the two factors on our bill (a) Interpersonal Relations (b) Lobbying. Interpersonal Relations. How does relationship among persons enhance or negate the consolidation of democracy? One of the greatest English Political Philosophers, Thomas Hobbes, very early in the history of modern era captured the very essence of human motivation, which determines and defines human relationship. He pointed out that man is a system of mechanical matter in motion. In other ways that man is at all times driven by the quest for material needs.
